“Pivotally influenced at an early age (5, to be precise) by Ken Russell’s ground-shaking film adaptation of The Who’s Tommy, costume designer Carmela Lane knew her calling from almost the very start. Intrigued by fashion even in pre-school (her father was a shoe designer) Carmela, from Tommy onwards, switched her allegiance from footwear to Rock & Roll. “The music became my biggest inspiration,” Carmela notes, “the energy, the lyrics, the daring.”
Carmela currently designs elaborate, custom-made costumes for exclusive parties and corporate events in New York and Ultra Music Festival in Miami since 2013. New York Times, New York Post, and Vice have written about her work. Now a Creative Director for The TAO Group as well as the founder of 26 Stars, Carmela extends her reach into the realms of theatre and film. She has designed costumes for Cynthia von Buhler’s experimental off-Broadway piece Ziegfeld’s Midnight Frolic.”
